XR 29 Radiation Dose Requirements Are Almost Here
The XR 29, also known as MITA smart dose, is the fourth dose-related standard to be released by MITA since 2010. MITA is short for Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance, and offers healthcare providers a reference to identify important tools to optimize and manage radiation dose delivery. MITA estimates that one-third of the CT install base will need to be replaced by January 2016 to avoid the Medicare penalty for not meeting the radiation dose standards.

What Everybody Ought to Know About Buying a Used OEC C-arm
GE OEC’s C-arms are the most popular brand of C-arms on the market today. According to GE, 7 out of 10 surgeons have refurbished or new OEC C-arms. That’s right, a 70% market share for one product category. Incredible! These things must be good.
3 Tips for Buying a Used Linear Accelerator
The purchase of a new Linear Accelerator can cost between $1 million and upwards of $5 million. Delivery of radiotherapy equipment expenditures doesn’t stop at the equipment purchase. Other items that will be needed include: a simulator, a treatment planning computer, the treatment room, and the salaries of the radiographers and physicists concerned, as well as machine operating costs and interest charges. The total cost is no small matter, so whether planning for a new install or replacing an existing machine, these three tips will help ensure your equipment purchase stays on track.
What Treatment Planning Systems are used for VMAT?
VMAT stands for Volumetric Arc Therapy, a relatively new technique in radiation therapy that speeds up the delivery of radiation to the target. Unlike in conventional IMRT treatments, the linear accelerator must rotate several times around the patient or make repeated stops and starts to treat the tumor from multiple angles. VMAT can deliver the dose to the entire tumor in a 360-degree rotation.
